In 2017, Spring Awakening debuted brand-new stage designs and expanded its footprint across the park. Once again, the two main stages – appropriately named Solstice and Equinox – stood as homebase for the event’s biggest names and performances. The Solstice Stage hosted headlining performances by Marshmello, Martin Garrix, Diplo, Alesso, Afrojack and more, while Excision, GRiZ, Galantis, Datsik, Galantis, ZHU and more held it down on the Equinox Stage.
A variety of electronic music genres were showcased at the two tented stages with branded takeovers by Anjunadeep, Sunday School, Dancing Astronaut, Body Language, Bass Kitchen, and Trance Arena – which featured a surprise daytime set by Armin Van Buuren! This was the first time in Spring Awakening history where a headliner performed multiple sets in one weekend.
Today we invite fans to relive the spectacle and thrill of Spring Awakening with the premier of the 2017 Official Aftermovie. Featuring a complete and inclusive look at the festival’s shining moments and unforgettable performances, the aftermovie is sure to help attendees ride out the upcoming months in anticipation of SAMF 2018.
Deadbeats Chicago
Our quintessential, faithful, electronic favorites return to Chicago this fall for their latest tour. Their Northern Lights circuit in 2016 brought us ethereal waves of electricity and of course, a massive amount of bass. Zed’s Dead brings to us this year, Deadbeats, making its stop in Chicago October 21st. Switching it up for us in 2017, they bring with them to Navy Pier an eclectic mashup of greats we already know, and of course some little or lesser known. This group of artists will give you an evening that will specially deliver something you’ve been missing, with a little something you know and love. The boys bring with them this time, Ghastly, Ghostface Killah, K?d, Eprom, and Diskord–the kind of lineup that makes for an alluring night, basically.
A heavy bombardment of tempo and a deep cathodic pulse represent electro-house great Ghastly. A hard house producer and crowd favorite, Ghastly’s coming back to Chicago for a fall show this time, however.
Ushering in a new wave of electronica, K?d provides a majestic fulfilling wave, breaking sound barriers and hearts. This heavy mystical dub is a perfect fit for the rest of the staggering performance, and will undoubtedly be a new favorite for you if they aren’t already. Also appearing is Eprom, an artist you’ll definitely want to see, featuring music you won’t hear often. It’ll capture your attention, with an array of wild space trap type beats that you’ll have to see to believe.
The Chicago show is also treated to a gross amount of bass from Diskord, and a swirling echoing dub; fitting with the theme of our lineup this year you can expect a mixture of trap and cerebral rhythms.
Special to Chicago, ZD and React bring to us classic rhymer, Ghostface Killah. If the night wasn’t already teeming with must-see acts, Ghostface is that old school hip hop you didn’t know you were missing.
This display of unique musical talent has so many different things to offer, there’s something for everyone to not only enjoy, but to love. Come to Navy Pier October 21st and become a part of the love that happens when divergent forces merge. And of course, it’s a chance for everyone who appreciates Zed’s Dead to join together.
It’s a mixture of old and new, in a venue with even more history than the artists that visit it and will represent a memorable fall event for everyone who attends.
Lee Burridge’s roving open-air soirée, All Day I Dream, announced its 2017 World Tour. As might be imagined, the tour offers up a venerable collection of destinations and venues. Festival appearances at Belgium’s Tommorowland, Romania’s Sunwaves, and Barcelona’s La Terrazza during off Sonar week are complemented by events in Budapest, Amsterdam and many more. And as the sun sets on summertime in these locations the tour continues until the end of the year, chasing the sunshine in Brazil, Dubai as well as Miami during Art Basel. These shows will be supported by All Day I Dream’s official beer partner, Sapporo.

In Lee Burridge’s own words on the World Tour, “music is one of the greatest escapes for me. It connects those who are open minded to life and the lives of others. It’s a language we can all understand and meet within to share experiences. The ability to take All Day I Dream out across the world again this Summer is a privilege and I’m really looking forward to sharing a thousand beautiful moments with friends, friends to be and total strangers. This is set to be an amazing year for us all. I’m looking forward to playing plenty of the parties with Lost Desert who I’ve been working with during Winter time.”

In anticipation of the tour, All Day I Dream has announced its ‘Summer Sampler 2017’ compilation set to be released on June 16. This stellar collection of seven hand picked tracks will undoubtedly soundtrack many in and outdoor dance floor moments over the next few months, offering an all-encompassing bridge between the label and iconic parties. Today dreamers may have a first listen to the compilation with PHCK’s ‘Death of a Butterfly’, a cinematic treat for the senses. Listen here: http://bit.ly/2rVRho5

Extending far beyond the usual musical community it finds it’s way into the worlds of fashion, art, wellness and beyond.
The event’s contagious positivity seems to spread like wildfire between those in attendance and represents a return to the simplest of things; broad smiles beaming from the faces of the beautiful souls who embrace the moment as well as this movement. A delightful and bewitching aural and visual treat for the senses.

Electric Forest successfully combines men and women’s musical experience amongst nature’s eternal perfection. The loops we made with our thoughts and feet created spirals of overlapping excitement. The festival brought joy and curiosity to copious minds. This domino effect has only been growing throughout the years. I believe Electric Forest does a great job with their lay out and convenience. it is obvious that the attendees are first and foremost in the minds of those that have put together the event. Music choices are of the utmost talented artists and the theme of the forest was just as alluring as the attendees whom in essence created the overall characterization of this festival.
We made it into the first camping spot we could find. We didn’t even bother putting up a tent because we wanted to distract ourselves away from our everyday life and dive right into the mix. The true beauty of festival is they have a way of letting you forget any stress you have! We hurried straight for the stages knowing our salvation was just steps away. As we approached Tripolee stage, the horizon soon revealed moving cement like heads. There were beautiful native warriors from somewhere near South Pacific Islands painted with fluorescence. The details emphasized the curvature of their cheeks and nose with greater emphasize towards their prefrontal cortex. They held secrets of wisdom in which our westernized world are struggling to reconnect with. They reminded us why so many souls have found themselves in the forest and retune our minds. Streams of electronic melodies played pulling our bodies closer together and engulfed us within its hands. The warrior peered down as she looked over her creation. Her fingers were painted like elemental portals where her hands crafted in energy to share with us.
Nero completed the night with sampled guitar solo from the 70s as we entered a singularity which would push us into our next progression of music. As we walked back towards our camp a pop up party began within a huge dome. It was something of a huge metal jungle gym that flooded my memories of an elementary playground. The entrances where cut into geometric shapes and to enter you had to duck into the triangle while the crowd awaited whomping their heads to liquid bass.
We walked back to camp while the ground bounced under us; moistened from the slight rain storm from earlier. At times the ground seemed hallow like the world would echo beneath our feet and ring though its core. We began our journey into the camping grounds randomly finding buses draped in lights like the magic school bus who had taken far too many hits of acid and adopted amateur djs to spin on their roofs tops. The crowd that began to form shortly after us and started a mini dance party. This afters had a very chill vibe coming closely to that of pretty lights. The funk surrealism like vocal chords that can transcend into choirs and then into a low trumpeter blows.
The next day, we headed out with little sleep from chaos from the night before. I was concerned about being overheated in the morning but the weather was chilly towards the night and the early morning which made sleeping easier to handle. We didn’t have the shade of the forest around us but it wasn’t until mid afternoon when the tent become hot and stuffy.
I was happy to see a spread of porta-potties throughout the festival. They never left one space with too much traffic yet never were placed at any point too far from access. The forest even provided outdoor stalls making it even easier for the boys of the festival. This kept the festival forward thinking and kept up in mind convenience and hygiene.
Water refill stations were also supplied which I felt is the key importance to any festival. Its actually rare to see this at festivals but it almost seems like a no brainer to have them. Keeping in the consideration of the amount of walking, dancing, the sun, and other factors that shall remain unannounced; there is a storm of causes that can create dangerous dehydration levels.

We headed towards Sherwood Forest where twin wooden owls were posted proudly as gate keepers. The trees stood tall and thin within the forest and captured the art of what the festival represented. They were the omniscient beings and drawing nearer to them you can feel the force of their power and patience. They held secrets of childhood fairytales where gnomes would weave in and out of the trunks frolicking within adolescent wonder. They brought magic of intuition and whispered great secrets if you would only listen closely enough.
We ventured deeper into their cool embrace where we discovered the white elephant in the room but quickly became distracted as an eerily strange feeling swept through the air. It appeared to be some sort of alien hybrids sweeping over the grass.Their hair was completely white and eyes blacked out enticing the mystery of the creatures. They also seemed to be using an advanced extrasensory system that was unavailable to humans and view life in complete monotonous emotion. They walked slowly in white and silver body suits designed by GL&M with with a triplet tiers of jagged fabric which accentuated their hips.

Shortly after we entering back into reality, we neared the Floozies. Random guitar wahs and brass ensemble created a call and response. A live drummer grooved beats which layered over live instrumentation and synthetics of computers. Suddenly a trumpet created smooth transience as a liquid bass dropped. A new age of synthesizers and bass complimented their live instrumentation not one overpowering the other. The dialogue continued to walk you through a memories of a poolside parties where guitar wahs and brass emphasized chords changes and transitions.
One of the dj sets that I was most impressed with came from Rezz. She explored a very dark take to electronic music. The appeal of being masked with hypnotizing goggles and not taking in account division of physicality. Some audience members confessed to have not known she was a female prior to seeing her live! Full on rage excitement screaming from out of the pit of their stomachs. Such a bliss and momentary feeling being present in such a atmospheric sense. Her underground revamp created a surreal grinding of bass awakening us into its thunder.
A crowd of photographers anxiously lined up in the pit to get the first glimpse of Bassnectar as the producer took the stage. Camera men were literally on their tip toes in order to peer over the dj booth before the show began. People gathered from all over the park to catch the hard hitting set. This one of the most sought out sets of the festival and people swarmed like honey bees waiting for a taste of Bassnectar; allowing him to pollinate our minds. Deep Hz of a sub started to slow. The frequency became so low the earth froze for just a moment causing the cilia in our ears to completely stand up still. Then suddenly a scorcher of bladed edged whomps while intermingling with lulls of new age hip hop beats. This energy began to creep in as we our feet become our knees. His unique sound and hard work in production has given him the amazing die hard fan base in which he deserves.
A totally different reaction came later in the night as Oliver Heldon began his set. There was undeniably fun vibes from the crowd. His music brought togetherness. I enjoyed the fact that his set took place at the Tripolee stage because it further pushed the “Ibiza party” vibe. The floating cement heads blessed the crowd with their spirits and their wisdom the green and white lights were perfectly designed for this beach side rave. I could feel a pressure easing off my chest as this energy accumulated over our heads then transformed into an undeniable feeling of blissfulness.

On Sunday, everyone in the camp has become miniature families. We partied together late nights and followed each other around through the thick of the mud and heart of the day lights sun. We became comfortable and grew out of our shells. Finding new friendships and thought provoking perspectives. We found ourselves cuddling for heat during the night with these once strangers. The amazement is how quick bonds form in camp and how quickly a close connection can form that is unlike everyday life.
We stepped outside of camp to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere amongst a place that brings such restlessness. Autograph’s representation of purity and genuine emotion drew fans who will hold them dear to their hearts for years to come. Their music was reminiscent of a lovers soft breath upon your neck, the fingertips that traces outlines of your body, or the the voice that turns you over in the mornings sending the chills walking up your spine. The soft xylophone bells danced in sync with the beat created a simple line with such a deep undertones that moved their fans gently side to side. A theme song guiding us to come home and sent our inspiration for those who needs the extra encouragement to keep striving further.
Later that night Ganja white night pushed the crowd to become alive. Into the highs and lows of their encompassing music. They asked for the crowd to sway with the white lights of their phone screen. The scene from stage was magical. Melodic whomps with organ vibes played. Their whomped bass was more melodic styled without the obnoxious violence of a never-ending drops. The bass was powerful this new sound of epic proportions liquid bass. The stage graphics displayed a checkered patterned behind the silhouette of simple black tee shirts and black caps.
A lofting stream Of fingers sped over the fretted neck and lingered it’s strand of melodic DNA throughout the night. It was blended in divine human experience a silent spoken word of calming the clatter where bubbles floated by through a pause in time. Pappadosio fused sounds of the new age without loosing the spontaneity of the human touch. They use electronic accompaniment to emphasize the importance of man’s creations.
A light rain drifted towards the ground cooling our skin whilst Led hoopers found their kinetic flow within circuits of circles. They transformed the essence of the universe the femininity of the curvature. The floating left and right with distinct hand manipulation and the clicking hour glass shapes. It was bittersweet ending as the night was slowing down; but on the other hand knowing that next week it would all start over again. Soon a new crowd of E. foresters would find their place in the wood and into all the little nooks of art. The forest was as mysterious as the silence of the trees. Vibrations ran this festival and memories would be forever kept safe by it’s keepers.

The Favorite Five at Rootwire 2K17
5 Sets Thou Shall Not Miss at Rootwire 2k17
This year’s line-up is killer! We have mad love for the usual suspects – Phutureprimative, Govinda, Pysmbionic, CloZee, David Starfire, Spiritual Rez, Consider the Source but DO NOT snooze on Moon Frog, Eumatik, Deaf Science with their tool tribute and Danksgiving Family Band with their Pink Floyd tribute!
We wanted to share sets thou shall not be miss, but after doing the homework –
the entire line-up sounds pretty stellar!
The festival organizers truly out did themselves sourcing diverse music talent.
RJD2 a.k.a Ramble Jon Krohn is a musician based in Columbus, Ohio. He is owner of record label RJ’s Electrical Connections. He has been member of groups such as Soul Position, MHz Legacy, and Icebird. Spinning since the 90’s has allowed RJD2 to incorporate a different flavor in his mixes compared to some of comparable big edm artists today. Electronic music has evolved and morphed in many ways over the last (almost) two decades. He gravitates towards working with hip-hop artists and hands down the epitome of a DJ. He keeps the beats flowing and his fingers skipping and scratching while flipping and switching between classic LPS – RJD2 is a disc jockey/producer who brings experience and longevity to the game. Please do not miss his set. It’s exquisite to watch him live mix for you – quite a different experience…
Polish Ambassador is hands down one of my favorite artists and he was my first introduction to glitch-hop music. The Polish Ambassador, real name David Sugalski, is an American electronic musician and disc jockey from Oakland, California. Sugalski began dabbling with music production while earning a Marketing degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder. In 2006, he released his first album, Diplomatic Immunity, a collection of 8- and 16-bit funk / electro anthems. After he released two more albums, he attracted the attention of a Microsoft-funded video game developer. Sugalski is a multi genre musician, producing styles including electro, breaks, hip-hop, dub, funk, and glitch-house/hop. Sugalski uses live sound mixing, using computers and midi instruments to produce album tracks differently at every live performance. The Polish Ambassador’s latest album, Color Of Flight, was released in March 2017. For most Polish Ambassador shows, Sugalski wears a neon-colored jumpsuit that he purchased in a Chicago thrift store for $3.99. He uses Ableton Live and Sonar to produce his music. He is Jumpsuit Records.
He explores many sub-electronic genres and combines them effortlessly with hip-hop and breaks being his favorite to artfully sprinkle into the mix. There are multiple sides to the Polish Ambassador and every personality is hella lit. Whether is tribal, South American-influenced gypsy music or the computer-tech, glitch-hop – his production will take your ears on an eargasmic journey and mind on a cosmic flight through the various instrumentation components he’s so tactfully webbed together. He is a wizard. Every time I see him live, I’m amazed how well he reads the crowd and matches the energy while playing off the crowd’s energy to keep his connection with the audience very aware and present.
Vibe & Direct, three-piece powerhouse, is an ever-evolving musical fusion, landing somewhere on the spectrum between rock, dance and electronic music. I have never seen them live, but after dabbling with their soundcloud – I am quite impressed with the variety of sounds, tempos and genres used. The trio performs with a rhythmic pulse and known for their dynamic dance parties and smiling faces. They released their first full-length album – Chrysanthemum – in February of 2017. With a sound that is driven by their primitive bond, the boys spend most of their time deep in jam, and touring the US. Consistently traveling throughout the Northeast, Midwest, East Coast, and Southeast, Vibe has made stops at festivals like Rootwire, Mad Tea Party Jam, Domefest, and the Werkout.
Eumatik, thank-you for the DOPE Dr. Dre remix. Love for anyone samples 90’s hip-hop and continues to celebrate it. Don’t snooze on this DJ because Eumatik will keep your senses lit and you dancing on your toes as he uses weird noises and glitch breaks to keep the electro-funk alive. His music is intended to expand the conventional horizons of live electronic music. This is accomplished by fusing a diverse variety of musical elements that range from jazz theory to 18th century counterpoint. These unfamiliar musical territories can even bend the rules of counterpoint for the music theory enthusiasts who care to analyze it. Another important aspect of this music is the mix of contrasting genres and vintage keyboards with ultra-modern sound design. They’re constantly looking for fresh and innovative ways to use music technology while keeping everything melodically and harmonically interesting at the same time. – GO SEE HIM!
Zach Deputy is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter based in Savannah, GA and best known for his live looping shows. He describes his style as “island-infused drum n’ bass gospel ninja soul.” Deputy has a diverse ethnic background, having Puerto Rican, Irish, African, British, French, and Cherokee heritage, which opens him to influence from Latin, Caribbean, and African music. Deputy’s music is often about “the highs of life,” and he has said that songwriting is a way to “take pictures of the things that I want to remind myself of 10 years from now.”
Deputy began looping when his bass player couldn’t make it to a show and Zach decided to use a delay pedal as a looping pedal rather than cancel the gig. When he plays live, he will loop and layer chord progressions, bass, beat boxing, drum sounds, vocals, and guitar. He performs with four microphones: a vocal synthesizer for choir sounds; one for high-hat, snare, and back-beat; one for main vocals, and one for vocal bass or bass drum. His looping shows are known for their variety. “There are so many different ways it can happen. I can loop my guitar first, go into drums or loop a vocal riff first or straight into beat boxing and loop it or just go acoustic. It’s very free formed. Every show can be extremely different from another. I try to have little consistency when it comes to my show. I never want to get bored with myself.” His fans will seek out live recordings of particular shows because each is so unique.
Deputy spends most of the year touring and at one time averaged 300 shows a year. His performances are mostly one-man-band looping shows, but also include Zach Deputy Band shows and acoustic storyteller shows. He has played many large festivals such as Jam Cruise, Mountain Jam, High Sierra Music Festival, Gathering of the Vibes, and All Good Music Festival.
Please do yourself a favor and sample every artist on this line-up because they are all about to bring the FIRE in Ohio next weekend!

Suwannee Hulaween Announces Lineup for October 27-29, 2017
at The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida
Where: Set in the midst of 800-acres of Spanish moss-draped oak and cypress along the black Suwannee River. Complete with the largest bat house in the southeast U.S, Suwannee Music Park is one of the most beautiful live music venues in the country. The park also offers guest comforts including a general store, full-service restaurant, free showers, indoor bathrooms and water stations. We recommend flying into JAX if you can because it’s an easy airport that’s only 1.5 hour from the fest. You can find some pretty good deals if you fly into Orlando which is 3 hours from festival. Regardless you’ll need to rent a vehicle.
As always with a camping festival, FLY SOUTHWEST. Plan accordingly. Think about it – you can check a chair and tent. If you have a bigger bag for your tent that can fit your comforter, pillow, etc. that’d be ideal. Then bring on the plane a decent sized luggage and backpack. Travel with a buddy and share a tent so your partner can pack the cooler and any large essentials.
There’s a million trees – bring your hammock!
When: October 27-29, 2017
Lineup Sampling: Hulaween attendees may find themselves entranced by the world-leading instrumentative wonder of The String Cheese Incident, The Disco Biscuits, Greensky Bluegrass, and Lettuce, being blown away by dance-floor commanding electronic giants like Bassnectar, GRiZ, RL Grime, Claude VonStroke, Beats Antique, FKJ, Shiba San, and Manic Focus, or being treated to globally renowned headlining live acts like Ween, Run The Jewels, Portugal. The Man, Nick Murphy (Chet Faker), Nathaniel Rateliff, and many more.
Scene: It’s definitely a family-feel festival. Between the wicked art installations to tasty, healthy, organic, vegan vendor options and music diversity – a very well executed and planned affair. Traveling to Live Oak, FL is slightly tricky unless you’re from the neighboring state. Attending Suwannee takes planning. THIS morphs the festival vibe. It’s more intimate and you have a focused crowd. Halloween weekend is filled with music events all over the country. You can go anywhere….but when you choose to attend Suwannee you’ll be apart of something very special – WE LOVE THIS VIBE. The festival goers are a chill group enjoying killer music in fun Halloween costumes. That’s a big part, everyone is in a costume!
The Brotherly Love, Madison House and Silver Wrapper are a wicked combination. Suwannee is produced by a powerhouse of event organizers! These crews know how to get down and get the right fans in attendance. The schedule is arranged so there’s no overlap. There’s a lot of space to dance, rest, move and everyone is generally friendly – that goes for the security and staff too!
Attire, Weather, Food: Everyone is in Halloween costumes all weekend. This is the place to let your freak flag fly. Its HALLOWEEN WEEKEND. Don’t forget to look up the weather and theme nights on the festival website. The weather ranges in northern Florida. It can be as high as 70’s (possibly 80’s) during the day and as lows 40’s and 50’s at night. Dress in lots of layers! You will need a tent. Camping is in the forest. You can try for an RV pass if you’re not “outdoorsy”. The camgrounds are very well maintained and they are in the forest surrounding the festival. Security is minimal to non-existent entering the campgrounds. They check for booze and whatnot when you enter the actual festival/music area. They have a ton of food vendors – great options. Our personal favorite vendor makes “Mountain Tropps” – quiona, apples, beans, feta, lemon, avocado… we’re probably missing a few key ingredients.
Notes: This festival is our favorite Halloween Festival. If you’re looking to get down over Halloween weekend, this is the party. It is a very well organized and executed event. From creative design, music, event grounds, stage set-up & lighting – hands down one of the best in the country!
Suwannee Hulaween, always delivers a diverse music and arts experience at the historic Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. It has revealed a spooky dub-filled, old-school line-up with extra cheese.
Celebrating its fifth year, Suwannee Hulaween will offer a wide-reaching exposé of live and electronic music’s finest to soundtrack a fully immersive creative journey.
The String Cheese Incident will remain at the helm of Hulaween, lending their creative vision and experiences touring as one of the world’s most sought after jam acts to help shape the iconic look and feel of their flagship festival.
This movement shaping event offers its loyal followers a doorway into a visionary paradise, a channel into a reality defined by boundless surprises and exploration. Suwannee Hulaween’s five year anniversary will fuse a diversely curated musical lineup with awe-inspiring art installations, live performance, yoga, workshops, a speaker series and a slew of interactive activities to get lost in.
It remains the artistic triumph of Hulaween’s fully immersive inventive playground, Spirit Lake, that continues to defines the multi-faceted Suwannee voyage. Psychedelic media arts, otherworldly lighting design, and bewitching projections lure attendees deeper into the wooded lakeside oasis where they may encounter live performers and of course costumed fans embedded into this wildly collaborative passage.
Suwannee Hulaween has built its reputation on an unparalleled combination of world class musical talent, finely curated artistic programming, and a stunning natural location. It is such attention to detail and dedication to immersion that offers Hulaween attendees a truly peak experience.
The 2017 festival will also feature a fully programmed Thursday pre-party on October 26 at Spirit Lake with musical offerings from the likes of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Greensky Bluegrass, Lettuce, Liquid Stranger, The Devil Makes Three, EOTO & Friends, Zach Deputy, Kyle Hollingsworth Band, and more.
In co-producer talent buyer, Michael Harrison Berg’s own words on Suwannee Hulaween’s fifth year, “Suwannee Hulaween, our flagship event, turns 5 years old this year and feels like it’s finally flowered into a grown up. Between the ever evolving and diverse musical line up with a curated blend of Jam, Dance Music, Rock, and Hip Hop, along with with the experiential art experience of the Spirit Lake installation, back dropped by the natural beauty of the Spanish Moss laden oak tree forest at Spirit of the Suwannee, there is no better Halloween party in the world. Five years ago, we set out to take The String Cheese Incident’s annual Halloween bash, and grow it into a full scale festival. Now, we have the honor of producing an event that we’d personally want to be at. We’ve watched the process come and go full circle as we’ve grown together with the most loyal and dedicated fanbase we’ve ever witnessed in our collective career. For our 5th anniversary in 2017, we plan to level up across the board.”
