Getting Four Loko with The Fat Jew

IRL presents an event sponsored by Four Loko that went off yesterday night. This event is absolutely unheard of in Chicago because it was completely free!! Meaning free entry, free coat checks, and on top that free Four Loko drinks!
What seemed to be an endless crowd piled along the outside walls of the building waiting for entry. The draw was so large that they had unexpectedly reached capacity and left many people waiting for their chance to enter. Although some were stuck waiting in the cold; it was worth it knowing this was a Free sponsored event.
Four Loko brought along hard liquor as well as their famous 16 0z. canned drinks with flavors Fruit Punch, Watermelon, Peach, Lemonade, Strawberry Lemonade, Grape, Blue Hurricane, Mango, Black Cherry, Green Apple and many more. Four Loko being based out of Chicago showed love to all of us by hooking it up big time with drinks, hats, and t-shirts.
lokoo
The event was headlined by Dillon Francis and opened with close friend, The Fat Jew. The Fat Jew is a Dj who found a fan base through Instagram and well known for his wild choice of hair style and outrageous personality. This probably doesn’t come as a surprise given the stage name he goes by. He sported an over exaggerated Alfalfa where is hair was tied up in multiple hair bands and resembled more of a broom than any hair style I’ve ever seen. The celebration was in honor of his first book release; where he too felt generous and gave his book out for free to anyone willing to trip into the mind of The Fat Jew. Given that some of the first pages I opened up to was an admittance to a past crystal meth addiction and as well as a page dedicated to apologizing to his readers that many of the experiences he had written about were fragmentary black outs and some facts may be a bit skewed- I’m sure the book should be an entertaining read!
The_Fat_Jew_by_Guerin_Blask
The Fat Jew’s set was accompanied by two dancers wearing gold ninja outifits meets catgirl meets gogo girl. They commanded the stage as he controlled the crowd with his energizing dance and hip-hop beats. He didn’t take any backstage to his dancers as he truly made a relationship with the crowd. It’s obvious just from one experience of his shows that he truly loves entertaining his fans.
After a wild introduction from The Fat Jew; Dillon Francis took the stage with a seamless transition. Francis who gained fame from his unique moombahton style tracks including thick bass lines, dramatic builds; and a two-step pulse and rave synths, with quick drum fills.
All in all the event went over smoothly and without any complaints from the crowd. It wasn’t hard to let loose to the music given the crowd was very well hydrated thanks to the generosity of its sponsors. The night started and ended on high notes and given the draw of this event; their next event will be greatly anticipated.

Reaction New Year's Eve A Night To Remember

A festival inspired New Years event was in great anticipation as the crowds lined up to fill the Rosemont Convention Center. Being not only NYE party; but a two day event, December 30th and New Year’s Eve the 31st. The event thrown by React Presents and entitled Reaction was covered by Abc 7 News; bringing a true taste of underground Chicago into city and suburban homes alike. Acts such as Skrillex, deadmau5, Chance the Rapper, the Floozies, Purity Ring and some of Chicago’s own; Porn and Chicken and Autograf. 2015 passed and we took with us new inspiring acts of entertainment with newly arranged transcendental melodies welcoming us into the new year of 2016.Reaction NYE
It was a night of free spirits who dressed every which way they felt to express themselves. Mixed throughout crowds from elegant black dress and stilettos to fringed Minnetonka moccasins and mid-drifts there was an unanimous joyous feeling that ran throughout. Large balloons of opal white lined the walk ways as violet lights sprayed the words Reaction across the focus of the molded wall.
Upon entering there were 3 main stages to choose from; The Warehouse, the Hall, and The Arcade Stage. And as the name implies; there were tons of arcade games to fill your minds with whilst enjoying a live dj set behind you.
arcade new years
The stage set-ups were futuristic an with alien-esque vibe. Their vibrant colors and mesmerizing patterns pulled fans into the disembodiment of the music. Photographers filled the photo pit with electricity running through their veins trying to snap the perfect moment. The artistry of the stage complimented the music in such a harmonious matter; one could loose themselves in the beauty of it all. Computer graphics led this new wave of expression which evolved greatly from a Woodstock inspiration of color dyes and oils on primitive projector screens. Lights began covering the crowd in their warmth whilst dance beats realigned hearts in syncopation. Rhythms welcoming people of all forms and backgrounds allowed them to live freely at that very second and let go of reality.
Vendors sat on the outskirts offering intricately designed hats, shirts, pins and of course alcohol. A Monaco cocktail photo booth offered free polaroids and free samples of their favorite flavors. Grassroots California was also posted up faithfully for their dedicated followers; bringing along their famously designs hats.
With great inspiration from rock and funk the Floozies took the stage with a performing duo of Guitarist/ Dj Matt Hill and drummer Mark Hill. Crowds dripped in the juice of guitar solos as the Floozies allowed us within the bond of their brotherhood.
A shout out came from Chance the Rapper as Chicago Music Festivals stood within the crowd that definitely did not go unheard. Naturally born stage presence graced us with tongue twisting syllables all wrapped up in a caramel smoothness. He effortlessly combines lyrical rap with raspy melodic chorus; sharing from pages of his own life experiences.
askrillexSkrillex was saved for the last act of NYE. His music sent a pandemic over the crowd in synthesizers that crushed any hope of being able resist the power behind it. His high energy performance sent the crowds into a head banging frenzy; strong enough to misalign their spines. Spot lights swam from left to right in wild distortions as he bent and manipulated sounds transmitted from the unseen worlds of his imagination.
Promiscuity in dress and fashion, basketball gurus modeling the triceps/bicep combinations in sleeveless shirts, cold drinks, and lovely women filled the floors while an ontology of thought seemed to take hold behind each synthesized note. NYE brought entertainment and cosmic artistry into the same room and blended it all together. It can only be of my wildest dreams how the year 2016 will evolve these acts further. From the tireless innovations and hard work of our rising youth; Happy New Year!

Black Wednesday BIG PARTY

When you think “Thanksgiving,” thoughts of turkey, cranberry sauce and disgruntled family members are usually what comes to mind. Traditionally Black Wednesday is our one brief escapes from “Crazy Aunt Nutzoid” that local bars and pubs capitalize on finding to be one of, if not, the busiest nights of the year. We reunite with old friends and some times old flames on this age old American tradition so drinking is the primary activity of choice which, if done right, keeps you in its morning clutches just before your yearly gluttonous dinner. But, this year we decided to forgo the pub and go back into time to 1893 during the Worlds Fair. In this year, Nikola Tesla revealed his AC electric current, Pabst Blue Ribbon was named America’s Best Beer, and Dr. Henry Howard Holmes had acquired over 200 bodies in his “Murder Castle” becoming the literary Devil in the White City.
The creators of Wave Front Music Festival in collaboration with BAM Creates, Go Massive, OutFIT Events and a slew of Chicago night life and marketing legends put all of these elements together this past week during their decadent and fully thought out Black Wednesday in the White City. Expert craft mixologists all dressed in sepia tones, major local installation artists and live performers, deep Chicago House/Techno DJ’s, and even a legit 20 foot tall Tesla coil provided by the Museum of Science and Industry. The details of this party went deep. All the way down to a visually vintage VIP bar decorated with original Pabst cans from the 1893 World Columbian Exposition.
 IMG_9987IMG_0179
From the moment of being dropped off in front of the vintage Germania Place (c1889), you were surrounded by the vision of BWIWC’s creators. Two Tesla luxury vehicles (sponsor) faced nose to nose with the red satin rope running up a lavish stair case into the grand ballroom lined with art installed by Christoph Gausparro, Davis McCarty, and a band of local artist that were the highlights of the visual candy while DJ Inphinity, Ruexx, Hook n Sling and AN21 sonically delighted the dance demons in all the attendees. When it came to drinks an food there was no shortage of delicate touches with explosive flavor. If you happened to select a table service package your birds’ eye view of the main hall upon the balcony was complimented by a sponsored bottle of Effen, Russian Standard, Redbull, and a slew of hand crafted chasers.
IMG_0027
The dancers were on point, the DJs were wicked, the decor and the attendees were well blended. It was a well crafted homage to the White City that forever placed Chicago as a center of forward thinking ideas. This event was no different in any respect of Thanksgiving, Black Wednesday gatherings, Chicago style, or innovation. It was literally a reunion of friends in the night life Chicago nightlife industry that have worked, lived, created and mused together but until this very night were never in the same place in the same instance. Now, depending on who you are that may or may not be true, but the only way you can tell is to be there. Whether you were there or you were well, welcome to Chicago let this be an intro to a slew of heavy hitters in the Underworld. Whether you were dressed and there or home for the holiday (if you were at all), we recommend you watch for this combination again. For once they name it, you will see grandeur things and sights.

Heart of Santigold

In an are of the country where American music and Jazz was born, a program previously non-existent within the local community of St. John the Baptist Parish, LA, was granted $30,000 by Toyota, VH1 Save the Music Foundation (c 1997) and genre bending chart topping artist Santigold on Friday, October 30th, 2015, to build a comprehensive music program in La Place Elementary.
11225432_1268600979820520_6248684060781262474_n
A full assembly sat in awe as they were surprised with a poignant minimally artistic performance by Santigold, herself, along with her full act of dj’s and dancers one day before her appearance at Voodoo Fest 2015 in New Orleans, just 40 miles away. The kids didn’t sit for long, however, as the assembly of over a 100 students were invited by the generous artist to jump up and flood the stage while they performed in celebration of their newly gifted instruments and music teachers.

It’s good to know that no matter how big someone gets that there are still artists and celebrities that give back to the next generation and make themselves accessible to the belief that it doesn’t matter who you are, it doesn’t matter where you come from, you can make a dream come true. Thank you Toyota, VH1 STM, and Santigold for giving us all a little more hope for humanity.

BASH in the BAYOU

unnamed (2)
Magic, Masquerades, Music, and Mayhem have long been associated with
New Orleans’s culture. It is no surprise that we find ourselves entering into this old
historic city on the weekend of All Hallows Eve to Worship the Music in one of
America’s strongest growing traditions, VooDoo Fest. With the exception of
2005, when Katrina destructively descended upon the city, the bayou has had its
waters rippled with the sounds of heavy weights since 2000 A.D.

Now, as Voo Doo Fest approaches its 15th annual celebration and it seems that the
strength of this years line up was curated to draw spirits from all corners of the
country. Eclectically speaking, this line up is all across the board, and I am mad
curious to see how they blend.
unnamed (1)
Combining deadmau5 on a roster with Jack Ü, Alesso, the great Giorgio
Moroder, Santigold, Duke Dumont, Destructo, along with growing acts like Jauz, Nina
Las Vegas, Mija and Joywave is like handing out electronic ear sugar to a sea of candy
ravers. Ozzy will be gracing us with his unholy presence while Florence and the Machine
spreads her glowing wings once a gain to a crowd of thousands. Modest Mouse,
Jane’s Addiction, Girl Talk, Metric, The Joy Formidable, Django Django and Peaches
will haunt our hipsters.

For anyone going here is a quick survival guide that will help you through the weekend:
Flying
If you haven’t yet booked your air travel, you’re kind of cutting it close!
Driving
Voodoo takes place on the festival ground of City Park in New Orleans. If you have a VIP pass, your ticket package may include a parking permit–or you may be able to buy a parking pass. If you are general there are pay for parking areas outlined on the maps you will find on the cite
Parking: Parking lots from 5-15 minute walk from the festival range from $60-$100. Shuttles look to be the most cost-effective option. Map below
By the way–if you don’t purchase a parking pass, be prepared for a nightmarish situation trying to find street parking. You’ll be better off using an alternative form of transport if you don’t want to throw down for a pass.
Taxis
You can take a taxi to get dropped off at Voodoo and there will also be a very clearly marked area for picking up taxis when you’re leaving. Just remember how many people will be there, though, and plan to fight for cabs. Here is a list of cab companies in the area, all of which were recommended by the festival in previous years:

  • United Cabs Co: 504-522-9771
  • Checker-Yellow: 504-943-2411
  • White Fleet Cab Co: 504-822-3800
  • Coleman Cab Co: 504-586-0222
  • Yellow-Checker Cabs: 504-525-3311

Also UBER can be helpful here.
Public Transit
There’s a streetcar stop located by the festival entrance in front of the Museum of Art. The only problem? There are only two cars that leave after the headliner finishes, so by our calculations that means .10 percent of the crowd can squeeze onto them.
Biking
The festival heavily recommends biking to get to City Park, and New Orleans is pretty friendly for cyclists. You should enjoy the ability to get to and from the festival without waiting in any traffic, but make sure you make additional plans if you’re going to be drinking throughout the day!
WHERE TO STAY
Hotels
Voodoo partners with tons of New Orleans hotels to offer affordable rates during their festival weekend. You can enter in the dates you want to stay here and check out what they’ve got!
Camping
Voodoo offers camping. Clicking on that link will give you all the info you need and lead you to a site where you can purchase camping passes. If you decide to go this route, don’t forget to bring extra cushions for sleeping–no one likes to be sore when they wake up–and plenty of water!
Alternative Lodging
Air BNB is an innovative alternative to hotels. The site lets people list their extra rooms, apartments, homes, etc., and rent them out for a night, weekend or more. There are still availabilities if you search on there!
Couch Surfing is similar to Air BNB, and you might get the opportunity to stay with someone who is going to Voodoo themselves.
Maybe this is a bit of a “duh” suggestion, but send out a tweet or two–you probably don’t know everyone following you and maybe a friend can help!
WHAT TO PACK
Don’t skimp on what you bring to New Orleans. It’s better to be safe and over-prepared than sorry and under-prepared.

  • Water – Take a water bottle especially if you’re planning on standing in line before doors open.
  • Cash – Most purchases will require cash. There are ATMs, but you’ll have to sacrifice your children in transaction fees.
  • Sunscreen (no aerosol cans), bug repellant
  • Poncho – Don’t be that guy near the front with an umbrella if it starts raining, okay?
  • Hand sanitizer – Perhaps the best way to fight off the germs.
  • Phone charger – Just in case you need it…and you know you will.

Finally, here are a few notable items that Voodoo does or does not let you bring….these are items that people very often have questions about, and not every festival follows the same protocol:

  • YES small, soft backpacks and purses
  • YES small blankets and beach towels
  • YES small flashlights
  • YES backpacks that hold water–but they have to be empty
  • YES Collapsible, soft folding chairs
  • NO tents (except in designated camping areas)
  • NO pets
  • NO audio or video recorders, or still cameras with lenses longer than 4 inches
  • NO laser pointers

WHAT TO WEAR
Congratulations! You’re going to Voodoo, which means it’s actually not going to be blisteringly hot at your festival of choice. The high should be in the mid-70s with lows dipping into the 60s. Remember, Voodoo is a rain or shine event!
Also, don’t forget the very simple fact that you’re going to be in New Orleans! Bourbon Street is barely getting started by the time the festival ends, so remember to bring extra clothes for the nightlife after you’ve had the chance to shower off your festival day.

  • Backpack – Way, way easier to carry than a shoulder bag or holding stuff all day.
  • Two pairs of comfortable shoes – Make sure they’re already broken in. Nothing worse than getting blisters from a pair of brand-new boots.
  • Shorts – At least for the daytime. It’s not so hot that pants will be miserable, but we’re worried about the possibility of rain when it comes to jeans.
  • Watch – Your iPhone won’t last forever, you know, so just check your wrist instead
  • Extra socks – Seriously. You want to walk around in wet socks all day if it rains?
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat
  • Costume

 Drink Water Constantly
Here’s a list of fun things to do in the emergency room after you’ve passed out from dehydration: [content not found]
Overdo the Booze
See above with that whole thing about passing out.
Prepare for the Worst
Nice people tend to return lost items or put them in the lost and found. Consider making your name, phone number or a friend’s phone number very obviously noticeable on your possessions.

With so many different sounds coming from such a heavy hitting line up, along with
visionary artist decorating the grounds with installation , and deadmau5
unveiling a new futuristic staging, Voodoo Fest 2015 is probably the best way
anyone could finish out this years festival season. Being that is mere minutes from
the French Quarter in a city whose bars just don’t close, you can bet there will a lot of
pranking and rebel rousing as swarm of costumed and candy masked mischief makers
fill the city for this unholy weekend. So, if you find yourself down in
New Orleans make sure not to miss this deadly dance party, it might just haunt you
for the rest of you life…….
